Employee Hiring Mistake #6: Hiring Your Twin

It only makes sense that many a hiring decision would be based on finding those who share a similar style, view or temperament to one's own. Yet similar traits in an employee consistutes familiarity, not necessarily the best employee hiring choice.

Employee Hiring Mistake #7: Unrealistic Job Requirements

Many positions posted will lead to hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants from around the world. To counter this enormous response, many entrepreneurs ask for qualifications above and beyond the norm to weed out this overwhelming time consuming situation. Asking for too much unrealistically however will only attract those who will quickly feel unchallenged - a surefire recipe for poor performance or high employee turnover.

Employee Hiring Mistake #8: Not Having Enough Interviewers

Any employee hiring decision is crucial to your bottom line and long term strategic success. So why leave the decision making squarely on one person's shoulders? Providing more than one interviewer may bring forward employee hiring aspects you would have never noticed on your own.

Employee Hiring Mistake #9: No Interview Processes In Place Company-Wide

Interviewing isn't a subjective process; it's a technical skill that requires mastering. Since hiring is so integral to your organization's success, why should the applicant be the only one who has prepared, rehearsed, been coached and practiced?

Employee Hiring Mistake #10: Not Checking References

If you are 100% accountable for your hiring decisions, checking references isn't an option. Realizing there are some limitations to the process, talking to someone who has worked with the applicant will either strengthen your case that they will be a great fit or lead to additional questions that require asking. Either way, you're solidifying your case with concrete information.
