Sample Job Interview Questions to Determine a Job Candidate's Inventiveness, Innovation and Creativity

  1. Tell me about a problem that you've solved in an unusual or creative way.
  2. Give me the details of the most innovative or inventive program/service you've created, developed, implemented or collaborated upon.
  3. Discuss with me the riskiest venture you've ever taken on, and why or why not it succeeded.
  4. Share with me a time when you came up with an innovative, creative or inventive way of solving a long-standing problem.
  5. Describe the most creative project you've finished. What was the process? In the end, what happened?
  6. Give me an example of a time when you explored new ways of thinking that benefited the group or organization you were working with.
  7. Have you ever had to get creative to meet a deadline, finish a project or get something done? Tell me about it. What specifically made it creative?
  8. Tell me about a time when your inventiveness, creativity or innovative processes didn't help you in the long run, or failed. What happened, and why?
  9. Discuss with me the ways in which you've creatively helped others learn a task, concept or idea. How did your innovative input specifically assist the other person?
  10. Give me an example of a time when you and your team worked together to invent a new organizational process.
  11. What creative ways do you use to motivate yourself (or others) to accomplish a task you're unhappy about or don't want to do?
  12. Describe to me what you think creativity, innovation or inventiveness is, and how you've enhanced or created it in your workplace. Give concrete examples.
