Selecting the proper domain name is critical to online business success. An accurate domain name will guide customers to the proper web site by showing what is offered.

According to online web experts like Steve Baba, in his ebook How to Select and Buy Elite Domain Names. The domain will show exact location and if the website is commercial (com) organizational (org)educational(edu) governmental(gov) or any several other suffixes. Now, how to select a proper domain name which reflects the exact nature of the business.

The Domain Name Should Reflect the Business

Selecting a domain which reflects the business sounds simple enough. It is often difficult to zero in on the perfect name. Many individuals select a cute catchy name or use their own name. Often, this isa bad choice. Peggys-Goodies.com does not tell the search engines that her business is actually a gourmet bakery site. It might refer to something else altogether! If the domain name accurately reflects the business, potential customers who do not know the exact URL(Universal Resource Locator) will still find the site. For example, a customer is searching for a plumbing supply company. A good domain might be Plumbingsupplies.com or Plumbing-supplies.net. A potential customer might surf to Google type plumbing supplies into the search box and up pops that particular domain name (URL).

Check Domain AvailabilityAfter selecting the domain name, check if the name is still available. Check availability at sites such as http://www.NetworkSolutions.com. The domain name cannot be registered if it is currently owned by another site holder. That is why it is important to establish the availability of the domain name early on in the decision making process. Hopefully, this will avoid much confusion or difficulty over name selection.

Domain Lookup ToolUse a domain lookup service online (Domain Lookup Tool http://www.whois.net) Many webhosting companies offer customers a domain lookup tool to complete the registration process. If the domain name is available it may be registered. If the name is not available with the .com extension try org, net or tv.

Register the DomainNext, register the domain name while it is still available.

Select a Web-hostType in "webhosting" or "webhost packages" in the search box of any search engine. Select the top web hosting companies. Visit the sites. Study the web host packages. Next, select a package that meets the company's budget. Usually the web host will offer the option to register the domain name for a year, two years, three, for a specified price. This might be from $1.99 and up. Many webhost, for example yahoo, offer free domain name registration with a paid web hosting package. The webhost willhandle all the registration details.
